You can select
this tour, or
click here to ask us to design
one that includes
this park and/or other Wildlife Parks, as well as other destinations in India & Nepal. All visits are almost
all-inclusive and include the best
guided tours of local monuments and other places of interest.
Elephants abound in many parts of India and
elephant safari's can be
arranged at about half the
Wildlife Parks.
Jim
Corbett National Park (listed under Tiger Parks) &
Periyar National Park offer the best
opportunities for viewing wild elephants in their natural habitat.
Periyar is located around a scenic lake where the animals come for water; the park
is unique for a number of reasons, including the fact that you can
explore the Park on a boat, or observe the animals from one of the
watchtowers. Unlike other parks, vehicle or elephant back safari's are
not an option. However, just like all the other Parks, Periyar has an
abundance of other wildlife everywhere you turn. Walks with forest
officers and other unique wildlife viewing options abound.
This visit begins with a flight to
Kochi
(Cochin).
It includes a day spent in and around the historic port there, exploring
the ancient
maritime city built around a beautiful natural harbor. Explore the Dutch
Palace and the Jewish synagogue, both built in the middle of the 16th
century. Spend time in the ancient temples and churches, immaculate
beaches, and spectacular scenery of this land that was once referred to
as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea".
This visit also includes a day spent on the famous backwaters of Kerala
at Kottayam. Cruise on a traditional yet luxurious boat with your own
staff that includes a chef. The myriad lakes and rivers that make up
this idyllic land are fringed with palm trees, paddy fields, and rubber
plantations. You will view a way of life that, in many ways, has barely
changed over the last five centuries.
