Lion Park Visit

You can select this tour, or click here to ask us to design one that includes this park and/or other Wildlife Parks, as well as other destinations in India & Nepal. All visits are almost all-inclusive and include the best guided tours of local monuments and other places of interest.

Sasan Gir National Park is located in the rocky hills of southwestern Gujarat. Access to this park is tougher and more time consuming then any of the other parks that we facilitate. A flight to Rajkot offers the easiest and quickest way to the Sanctuary. You are almost certain of one, or more, sightings during your visit here, and a full grown male lion is an impressive sight. The last remaining home of the Asiatic Lion, Gir is a success story in the annals of wildlife preservation.

Spread over almost 1500 sq. km of deciduous forest, Sasan Gir is located in beautiful country, with many rivers dotting the plains. Although the magnificent lion is the main attraction at this park, Gir is also home to a large variety of other wildlife, as well as over 200 hundred species of birds, and you are guaranteed exposure to many of the above during your stay here.

The land itself is rich with time worn traditions and color; the cattle herders that make this area home have lived here for centuries. There are ancient temples and monuments in the jungle, including pilgrimage destinations that draw many Hindu devotees. Frequent encounters between lions and the herders produce surprisingly few altercations; despite the ease of preying on the tame cattle, the Gir lion has learned to co-exist almost peacefully with his human neighbor.

A short flight from Mumbai to Rajkot is the best way to get to Gir, and the Lin Park Tour includes a day and a half spent in Mumbai.
