Patan, a sub-metropolitan city, and is also referred to as “Lalipur”. It is located across the Bagmati River from Kathmandu. Many visitors visit Patan as a day trip since many of the accommodations in Kathmandu are much nicer. Patan also shuts down at night and activities in the city are restricted, unlike its metropolitan neighbor. It is easy to reach Patan from Kathmandu by car, taxi, or micro-bus.
Patan is a wonderful city to wander around on foot. It contains its own museum and there are five major temples throughout this city. Easy of these temples are architecturally stimulating and provide the perfect photo opportunity. Keep your eyes open, as Patan is the perfect city to purchase intricate jewelry pieces, Buddha statues, and elaborate wall masks.
