Royal Manas National Park


Royal Manas National Park is located in the south central region of Bhutan. This particular park is made up of the oldest protected area in the country, as well as the first national park of Bhutan. Royal Manas National Park borders India’s Manas Tiger Reserve and creates a large sanctuary consisting of tropical and subtropical ecosystems.

There are about 45 species of mammals that can be found in Royal Manas National Park including gaur, extremely rare golden langur, Asian elephant, hispid hare, clouded leopard, Royal Bengal tiger, gangetic dolphin, pangolin, Himalayan black bear, clouded leopard, sloth bear and wild water buffalo.

The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) and Bhutan’s Nature Conservation Division are jointly running programs that provide training and equipment to the park staff, improve park infrastructure and support biological and socio-economic surveys and park monitoring programs to maintain species populations.
