Satpura National Park Travel Information

Satpura National Park Description:

Satpura National Park covers 200-square-miles of hills and plains in the southern portion of Madhya Pradesh. It was created in 1981 to preserve the unique highland ecosystem found in central India.

The park’s terrain is made up sandstone cliffs, gorges, ravines and thick forest vegetation. The protected area is home to tigers, leopards, sambar, antelope, gaur, wild boar, and bears. The thriving bird population includes hornbills and peafowl, and there are around 1,300 species of plant life in the wildlife sanctuary.

The Bison Lodge, constructed by a British officer as India’s first forestry department, serves as the visitor center and museum for flora and fauna of the park.

Best Time to Visit Satpura National Park:

Satpura National Park is closed to visitors between July and October 15th every year for conservation efforts. From October 16th to June the park is open to safari tours, which coincides with the area’s best weather and increased chance to view the animals which are more active during the cooler months.
