After months of debate, the Delhi Urban Arts Commission cleared a 3D projection show that will display the cultural heritage of each Indian State through a series of still images exhibited on façade of India Gate. Concerns over traffic and pedestrian safety delayed the project through the summer.
India Gate is set for a 3D mapping project detailing India’s heritage.
The project will use a series of projectors to display hi-resolution images of numerous monuments around India on the edifice of the India Gate. The 3D projection mapping will display the images between one and five minutes apiece to give pedestrians and drivers enough time to view each picture.
Concerns regarding the safety of vehicle commuters and pedestrians led to a number of delays for the 3D mapping project. The display will have no audio-accompaniment, local police are planning to increase the number of traffic supervisors in the India Gate area to ensure the area’s safety. Each of India’s 29 states will have several images, such as the Taj Mahal in the State of Uttar Pradesh, to represent the area’s identity.
