Kigwema (Kohima Camp) Tour


Kigwema is a village located in the Kohima district of Nagaland State, India. This village is belonging to the Angami tribe. Kigwema means ‘inheritance of the house’, it is said to be one of the oldest inhabited villages and people that moved from here settled several other Angami villages. In 1944, Japanese forces came to Kigwema on their way to attack Kohima, and were provided shelter by the simple villagers. You will be impressed by the traditional structures with wooden pillars and local architecture at their traditional home where you will be shown how the villagers have lived for the past few centuries. There is Kisama Heritage Village near to this village where the tourists enjoy the spectacular Hornbill Festival. All 16 tribes of Nagaland are represented, and they are all incredibly colorful. There are not only fascinating dance and music performances; you also get to see their tribal apparel, handicrafts, art, headgear, and a lot more. If you are adventurous, you can even sample their unique cuisine. There are various local contests going on throughout the festival, from archery and wrestling, to climbing greased poles and eating red hot chili peppers.
